TERMINALIA CATAPPA, or commonly called Ketapang, tropical almond, badamier, Java almond, amandier de Cayenne, Indian almond, myrobalan, Malabar almond, Huu kwang, Sea almond, kobateishi

The Catappa Leaf originates from the Malayan Peninsula. Studies have shown that fishes that live near rivers where Catappa Trees are in abundance are much livelier and healthier. The dried leaves fall into the river, producing a strong brown dye. The dye contains high concentrated value of organic acids such as humic and tannic acids, which lowers the pH of the water, absorbs harmful chemicals and helps create a soothing and calm environment for the fish.

These attributes have caused Asian aquarium breeders to use the Catappa leaves for breeding, quarantine, and general well-being of their fishes.
